I write mostly poetry with a bit of prose and script writing.

You can find what I’ve written by clicking publications and poems and images.

I was a secondary school History and English teacher for years.  Then I moved into university and community work as a teacher of Creative Writing; and I still do writing workshops in schools with both kids and teachers.  You can find out about my teaching activities by clicking workshops and teaching and talking.

From Writing Edward Hopper in The Same Country

You say if you could put it in words
there’d be no need to paint.

You say you just want to catch the moment,
have no need of narrative, but your paintings
leave no way out except to invent the story:
however good your painting, I still need words.

In 2009 I did a month long Artists Residency in Iceland where I was working collaboratively with Visual Artist Pat Hodson and Sound Artist Jessica Rowland. We had two exhibitions, one in Sheffield and one in Leeds. Go to Our book, Iceland Stories, was launched in October in Sheffield and in London at the Icelandic Embassy in November. The printed book complete with an audio CD is available from Liz for £25; an ebook is also available for the iPad at a cost of £9.49 - Click Here for details and a preview.

Things of Substance: New and Selected Poems came out in April 2013. It was launched at the Sheffield Poetry Festival and at the Sticky Bun Club in June 2013.

I am delighted to announce that I have just been elected Chair of the National Association of Writers in Education. I feel very honoured and hope I can help to make sure NAWE continues to be an indispensable source of support and information for all writers, student writers and teachers of writing at all levels.
